Newspaper Project

Image
A couple of days ago my classmates and I were assigned a project to do over the week. The project was to create a replica newspaper about a certain topic. My group decided to do our project based on sports. The newspaper had to contain a lot of information and different separate pieces that make a newspaper what it is. For example, our newspaper included, articles that were created by the members of the group. Also it included a table of contents providing where all the pages and information will be throughout the newspaper. Also an advertisements page contains help wanted ads for sports marketing and sales and also including personal trainer ads. Another section that my group and I incorporated into the newspaper was important events such as basketball tournaments and new gym classes that were starting. Also we included quotes of motivation that could help kids and adults feel confident when doing something and help boost self-esteem. Another section that was included was benefit...

SPJ Code of Ethics

Image
The article, "SPJ Code of Ethics" was about how true journalists work and and tips on what to and not do if a person wants to further their career in journalism. Some of the things the article mentions about journalists is that, ethical journalism should be accurate and fair. Also it says how journalists should be honest and courageous in gathering, reporting, and interpreting information. Also the article has a section where it lists what  journalists should always do. For example, the list includes, that they should provide context. Meaning, they should take special care to not misrepresent or oversimplifying in promoting, previewing, or summarizing a story. Another part that is included on the list is that, sources should be identified clearly. Which means, that the public is entitled to as much information as possible to judge the reliability and motivations of the sources that the journalist got the information from. Also the most important information was on the li...

News article

Image
A fews days ago, my class and I started to make news article for a future newspaper project and see where our standards are. The object of making a news article was to see what information we can provide for a topic and how we can display that on a newspaper. So first we had to pick a topic we wanted to write about. I wrote about NBA Playoff basketball. We also discussed about the different parts a news article requires. Those parts are the title, subheading, images, and a pull-quote. The necessary part of an article was the image and a pull-quote. Including the main information related to the topic your article is based on. The objective of making the news article was to practice providing information on a topic and displaying it with other resources such as images and pull-quotes.

Resume

Image
About 2 months ago my class and I created a sample resume to see what are skills are, and how we could improve those skills in the future. Also we learned how to make resumes because it could help us prepare on what and what-not to include on a resume for future purposes such as colleges and jobs. First we saw sample resume and observed what the person did right and what the person did wrong, and how they could improve that. Also we had a workshop with a professional, and he explained to us what the purpose of a resume is, and what to include on it, and showed us little tips that people would like to see on your resume. The objective of this assignment was to learn the do's and dont's for a resume and how it can help us in the future when we need it.

Lab 11: Sports

Image
A few days ago, my class and I did a short lab using Indesign. The objective of the lab was to learn how to use the rectangular frame tool properly and how to make the text fit into the frame tool proportionally. Also it helped us learn how to put an image inside of a text, and how to use it correctly, to show the image related to the text. As you can see by the picture above, I have the word "SPORTS" on top, and inside of the word, there are images of sports that represent the text, like basketball and football. You may see this when you see water inside of the word "WATER" etc. This was the objective of the lab and we we can use the rectangular frame tool correctly.

Project 7: Identity

Image
A few days ago, my classmates and I did a project dealing with identity. Identity is something that makes someone different and unique from someone else in a very personal and special way. The objective of this lab was to represent what identity meant to us, and how its important for people around the world. As you can see in the picture above, it shows a hand with mixed colors, and it represents that even if someone is different skin color of different ethnicity from someone, they're all the same,  and be treated equal. No one should treated differently based on their skin color or where they're from.

Project 6: Yearbook

About 2 months ago in class, me and 2 classmates worked on a project which was to create a sample yearbook based on the Visual design class of 2017. It helped all of us practice our skills with all the applications such as Photoshop, Indesign, and other programs. When we first started the project, we had to first assign roles. In the project my role was the photographer. The importance of my role for the project was to take photos of everyone in the class for the class of 2019: Visual Design. Also once I've done that, I interviewed my classmates and asked them what they've enjoyed about Web Design so far, and what part of Web design was the most challenging. Also I took a few quotes from my class to see if they wanted to say anything about the course. Also what other members of my group did was that one person Uploaded pictures from our class trips and activities like the CTE Expo and include the labs and project we did in class, and include a description about each assignment....

Blending Images H.W.

Image
These two images above have a unique look to it. On the left-hand side there's a picture saying "New Years Eve" with images inside the text. It shows fireworks and nightlife which is common during New Years Eve. On the right-hand side, there's a picture saying "SUPERBOWL XLIV" with a filling inside of the text. The filling is the leather skin of a football used for the Super Bowl matches. These techniques for the two images enhances the design of the text because it truly represents the message the image is trying to show and it goes the extra mile to make it look very good and it complements the text. It's also pleasing to the eye for some people. This is how these two images use techniques to enhance the design of the image.

Lehman College

On Tuesday, March 21st, a few classmates and I went on a field trip with some other kids from other grades in the school, and took a trip to Lehman college, located in the Bronx. When we arrived at Lehman college, we took a walk around the campus, and then went to the dinning hall. When we came to the dining hall we saw many other kids from different schools around New York. People from the army, and other programs in the industry came to talk to us about their careers, and what they do, and how STEM is important to their job. If you didn't know, STEM stands for, "Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. First when we got there, we had people from the army introduce themselves, and talk about what the did in college and how STEM has helped them. After that we talked about leadership, and what a leader means to them. After that we had a lunch break, and everyone had an opportunity to talk to the people from the army , and if they wanted information on a specific topic...

WBL Workshop #5

On Monday, March 20th, my class and I attended a WBL workshop in school. The WBL workshop was an opportunity for us to get to meet someone that works for a well-known company, and gets to talk to us about the industry, and the profession you do, if you work for a certain company. We talked about what certain job positions a company has, and what the position does on a work day, and the tasks that is required for the job. We also talked about what students do after their high school career. Such as applying for a college or even a career. The first things we talked about was a resume. Because when you apply for a job/profession in the future, you need to have a resume talking about what are your credentials, what skills you have, and what extra curricular activities you have done in your past, and when you finished high school, and if you went to/finished college. Also, a resume shows the people who you're asking the job for, what type of person you are, and if your qualified for th...

Brochure/Animated Brochure

A few weeks, my class and I did a project for our Web Design class. It was to create a brochure, and provide information on some the events in today's society. Some of those events were animal cruelty, women's rights, and nature/pollution. My brochure was on the topic, Religion, and about the problems that each religion have been facing from people. Also about the recent news about the Trump ban on Muslims, and immigration about Hispanics. The first step of the project was to use Indesign, and and create 1 page(facing pages) and create a portrait orientation, and with 3 columns to make it look like a brochure. Then I started to put information and photos on the brochure. the first one was the cover page, which was the 1st side of the page, in the left side column. It said "Religion around the World, and underneath it, it had a photo of a wheel, and all the religion symbols around it. The 2nd column was the 2nd page, left column which I talked about the Trump ban, and how M...

THE MET

Image
Friday, February 17, 2017 my web design class and I went on a trip to the metropolitan museum of art. We saw a lot of historic art and learned a lot about each piece of art the museum had. For example, some of the historic art that we saw at the museum was, a blue wall which was a Islamic wall, facing towards Mecca, which is the direction they pray to Allah. Another historic art we saw on the trip was, 3 panels connected to each other, and each panel had 6 sides, Each panel had a different flow of a waterfall. One panel had a lot of water, and some panels had very little water. We learned  little bit about each art we saw, and we learned some of the messages behind each piece of art. For example, the waterfall panel's message was about, things being in a different form/way, they're still the same. Because for the waterfall, even though each waterfall had a different flow, it still ended up as the end of the waterfall. These different pieces of art that we saw, applied to web ...

CTE Expo: Recap

On February 13, 2017, Information Technology High School has a cte expo for the Web Design academy and Video productions academy. The Web design expo was a great experience for students and teachers. It was a great way for new students in the school to see what Web design is about, and what it offers post your high school career. Also another great thing about the cte expo was, it was a great way for students in the academy to practice their interviewing skills, and how they can improve on how they can prepare to be ready for interviews for internships, collages, and most importantly, a job. One of the those things we had to do, to help us prepare for interviews, was to wear business attire. Another thing was to behave mature. For example, speaking appropriately, eye contact, hand shakes when meeting a new person, etc. Overall the cte expo is a very good opportunity for students in the academy, teachers, and the new students who are applying to the academy.

Project 3: Restore Old Photo

Image
A few days ago in class, I did a project on an application called, "CS6 Photoshop". The project was based on an old photo of two female twins, and the picture was very old. So the picture had many white spots, some of the areas on the photo is faded away. So what we had to do was, we had to open photoshop and use the certain tools to fix the errors on the picture. Some of the tools that I had to use for this project were the spot healing brush tool, patch tool, content aware-move tool, and few other tools were used for this project. First I fixed the errors that were found in the background of the photo. And then, after that, I moved on to the hair and facial area. That part was the most difficult part of the project in my opinion, just because of how many white spots there were, and trying your best not to mess up the photo. The objective of this project was to learn how to fix error in a photo, and learning how to use different tools, and how they work.
